We worked with local artist Jesse RS last summer with the zombie themed video “Play,” so we were ecstatic when we got the chance to team up again for “Number.” Production started in January, since the song was so engaging we knew from the get go we wanted to design the entire video (the look, feel, everything) directly from the song. Sometimes finding a visual component to play off of in a video is challenging, but Number had so much punch to it, it almost seemed obvious to shoot it the way we did.
Probably the best part about the filmmaking process is the actual production day – and on this set we had a great crew. So many people came in and donated their time to help with this production – we are constantly humbled by our fantastic film community in Colorado.
Along with a great crew, we also got the chance to work with two actors we hadn’t worked with before. Working with new talent (especially in creative projects) can at first be little challenging, because you have to learn how to work with each other. It will take some time before you begin to understand how each other thinks and how they work. Mercedes and Chris were some of the most open and easy to work with actors we have had the pleasure of working with, and we would do it again in a heart beat.
It can be challenging shooting in a studio. The necessity of having to build everything has it’s ups and downs. It’s great having control over everything, but if you don’t have the resources to build the look you want, the image is going to have an empty look. This is why having the strong art department team of Misti Walker and Sara Blackwell there was such a big deal – we LITERALLY – could not have pulled this off without them.
Huge thanks to everyone involved, the talented filmmakers in the area, the great band, and everyone who helped make this a successful shoot.
